Big Bag O Magnets

If anything is true about war gamers it is we love magnets. They make things so much easier. Why built to models to get all the options and weapon combinations when you can magnetize and get them all in the same model. So a quick call to Amazing Magnets and 2 days later a box full of them arrived. Besides the normal specifically sized magnets I routinely get, this time I added in their 1/2 pound used-magnet grab bags. This has to be the best deal on magnets I have ever gotten. 85% of the magnets were easily usable for tanks and troops. The last 15% will work great on larger projects like titans and terrain pieces. There were a few broken ones and a tiny bit of metal 'trash' in the bag but not enough to even be an issue. I think this will become a staple for my orders from them.
Let the sorting begin.

Thick disc, battle suit weapons

Hammerhead weapon mounts

More weapon mounts

Flight stand disc

Cubes, the black ones are great for terrain due to low strength.

Bar magnets, great for attaching flyers to bases.

All sorted

Parts I couldn't find a gaming use for.

Tau Air Command - why magnets don't always work.

Got the second Remora assembled and ready for paint. I did hit a snag though. Turns out magnetizing them to their stands was a waste. Since I was using such a small contact point it was easy to knock the model off during normal movement. To correct this I ended up drilling a 3/16" hole in the bottom of each one and mointing them on metal rods. At first I was going to use clear plastic ones but went against it after dropping the rod and a piece broke off of one end. With the metal it should not be a problem. I also switched to one of my heavier resin 60mm bases. The lighter base felt "tippy" and that could mean trouble down the line.

Black Library Preorders - Promethean Sun

Promethean Sun
The Great Crusade reaches a feral world known only as One-Five-Four-Four. The forces of the Imperium arrive to deliver the primitive natives from enslavement at the hands of the alien eldar. The Iron Hands of Ferrus Manus and Mortarion’s Death Guard fight in theatres of war across the world, but the most vicious combat takes place in the deep jungles, where Vulkan and the Salamanders bring the Emperor’s wrath to the heathen aliens.
Vulkan and his sons must brave the deadly jungles, battle monstrous reptilian beasts and contend with the vile sorcery of the eldar if they are to liberate this world and bring the Emperor’s light to its backwards inhabitants.

Well I had to do it, I preordered Nick Kyme's newest Salamander book, and what a book it should be. This is not your typical Black Library book, this is more along the line of a Frogeworld book. It is a limited printing (3000 total), 128 page, leather bound, color book. Normally I wouldn't drop the much on a non game book. at $50 for the book then the requirement of express shipping for another $36 it is not a cheap purchase. I guess I am still on that last of my Adepticon high. So May better hurry up and get here. I really hate waiting.

The Remora

Got the first one assembled. They got together pretty easily but require allot of cleanup and greenstuff. The next one I am going to try and magnetize the seeker missiles and the vector jets.

Who runs 'Bootatown?

The 40K Freebootaz

Got to spend some time with my fellow Freebootaz at Adepticon 2011. We had quite a few show up and I will likely be editing photos and posting videos for another month trying to get them all in. Either way I wanted to tell the team thank you and I hope to see more of you next year.

Great work guys! It was a blast!
