Seals are done..., well almost. Call in the Deathwing!

Done, well almost. I completed painting, sealing and attaching the pins to the back. They are now ready to go out. I am just trying to decide if I want to attach parchment ribbons to them and if so what should they say. I am going to have to play around in Quark for a little bit to see what my options are.

Deathwing! I love when book stores run sales and what better sale then a store closing sale. Sadly one of the 3 Borders near my house is closing and rather than ship inventory to the other stores they are taking 20-40% off of everything. I love a sale and I love books. This is perfect. So my 40K library and RPG library grew a little. I picked up all the Fantasy Flight 40K game books. But wait there is more, SoB, Eisenhorn, Blood Angels, Dawn of War, an Arbites book, you get the idea. The grand total was 20 40K books (I cleared the section out), 4 Fantasy Flight books, the D&D Redbox reissue, Daemon and Freedom TM (2 of the best near future scifi books ever written), a foot tall stack of Bluerays and a bunch of gift books. The sales tape was about 3 feet long. Sales are good!

Terrain Project - Got to love toy store finds

With Adepticon quickly approaching I need to build a display board. The problem is I was stumped for an idea. I could do another simple one like the magnetic one but I wanted something a little more unique. While shopping for some stuff at Target I went through the toy department and came across this. The Tech Deck Street Tour Love Park set. This thing blew me away. It is the perfect scale and has all the little details that make it the best base for a larger project.

Out of the box it looks great. It is made from a heavy weight plastic and it modular so it will attach to the other Tech Deck sets. The seams are tight and with a couple of exceptions not noticeable. The cement areas have a slight texture to them and there are worn areas that look natural. The steps are wide and easily fit 60mm bases without tipping. The pylons at the top are the perfect height for troop sized figs to stand behind.

Now for the numbers. The piece is roughly 16 inches wide, 13.5 inches deep and 2 inches at the highest wall.

Just tint the f***in' resin

So after a quick trip to Hobby Lobby for some red tint this is what I got.

The color looks a little bright but that is a good thing because I am going to give them a black wash to add some tone. Here is a look at the 4 different finishes.
tinted, hand paint, red over silver spray, red only
Covered with Awesome Paintjob's wash

In the red.

I painted up the seals and found out some fun stuff. First don't forget to scrub off the release agent before painting. Stupid move on my part. I know better. Second, shake the paint can like it owes you money. I rushed it and got bit for it. Third, don't be lazy, setup your spraybooth instead of standing in an open window spraying in a Chicago winter. Paint doesn't like cold, damp weather. Forth, just tint the f***in' resin. The blue looks really good so I am going to start tinting them red to start with and save myself some time. The ones below hand painted and washed but this is the effect I am going for.

Ding, molds are done...again

The purity seal base molds are done and they look pretty good. I had a little bit of lifting on some parts so I need to do some minor cleanup but nothing too difficult. I am going to run a few more cast so I can make a larger mold. I need to do 60 of them and at 10 mins for each just in the casting being able to do 10 or so at a time is a major benefit.

Chosen of the Emperor

For the last 2 years at Adepticon myself and the rest of the 40K Radio Freebootaz have gotten together to put faces to the forum names we chat with. Last year one of the member Eldanesh did this great name badges for all the members and they were great. This year the one of the other 'Bootaz is stepping up with the badges. Well I decided this year to sweeten the deal a little with some resin purity seals to go with. I am doing 4 or 5 different designs for this project and a few that are different colors for the group.

The seals are about 60mm across and solid resin. Depending on how things go they will be magnetic so no pin holes. Here are the first 3 designs.
